Spangled is a very special wrap near and dear to the hearts of Poe Wovens, as a Veteran owned business. Since the beginning we have wanted to create something that people could wrap their babies in that was clearly patriotic and inspired by the American flag.
Every part of the wrap was designed with detail and purpose. The two inch stripes are the perfect scale ensuring that the geometric aesthetic of the stars and stripes are not muddled when wrapped. The colors; red white and blue speak directly to the colors of the American flag itself.
The Spangled design is Americana embodied in textile form; an American Made Woven Baby Wrap, finished in Vermont. It is a medium weight wrap and suitable to carry babies of all ages and stages.
"GLORY" WITH TENCEL® BLEND (RED & BLUE STRIPES):
Spangled with Tencel® will be our first wrap utilizing the fiber. Tencel® is the natural fiber of the future. It is produced from the eucalyptus trees, grown on farms. It's manufacturing requires only 154.7 gallons of water for 1 pound of fiber, and it needs about half acre for any ton.
But it is not interesting only for its sustainability. Also the peculiar characteristics of the Tencel® fiber are attractive, and make it a wonderful choice for children-related use.
It is particularly suitable for sensitive skin: the fiber is soft and smooth and it has great moisture absorption, 50% greater than cotton. This, together with its natural breath-ability, keeps the skin dry, avoiding rashes. The incredible moisture management of the fiber also makes Tencel® anti-bacterial.

"PURE" WITH NATURAL IVORY EGYPTIAN MERCERIZED COTTON BLEND:
Spangled Natural is just that. A stripped down version highlighting the stars and stripes, with the fibers and weave of the textile itself as opposed to with rich color. The result is a stunning and elegant woven sling.
"Mercerization is a chemical process that adds sodium hydroxide or other acids to cellulose fibers under tension (i.e. cotton and less frequently linen and hemp). It changes the chemical structure of the cotton fiber, swelling the cell walls. The fibers become more lustrous (they become smoother and hence reflect more light); they absorb more water; they absorb dye better. Mercerization makes cotton smoother in hand, and shinier. It has a lovely heavy drape and hand-feel; it’s softer then regular cotton (which makes sense, since it’s already had some chemical breaking in)." - Elizabeth Broadbent of Manic Pixie Dream Mama
- Hand wash separately in cold water, with minimal gentle liquid detergent, limiting agitation. (Due to the bold color contrasts of the TENCEL® blend version of Spangled, color is very prone to bleed. Some color bleeding is to be expected and adds to the rustic, patriotic character of the wrap.)
- Tumble dry on low, (I like to to add wool dryer or tennis balls, but they are not necessary).
- Finish with a steam iron on the cotton setting before use.
- Approx. 5-10% shrinkage in length is customary.
